Are you using more than one or two intelligences at work? What difference does it make? Tapping more of your smarts at work leads to innovation and invention... For starters, why not try it as you blog. How?...Ask a two-footed question from the perspective of a person who is highly musical, for instance, and see how it changes the way you think. Your question might be...How would key ideas for my topic be expressed by a symphony conductor?
Jot down key words and see where it takes you...
Here's a spotlight on bloggers whose work shines as they tapped a variety of intelligences this week. Ask new questions... See what sparks ideas...
Spatial Intelligence What difference do art, images and cartoons make to you as a blogger? Lisa Gates tapped into the brilliance of using a visual image as a writing prompt on fear. She asked people to "Write What Scares You." Somehow, looking at the image brings more ideas to mind... Does it help you think differently?Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence Interested in plotting and monitoring your exercise from your cell phone and other devices? Sally at Interactive Health informs us about exciting new possibilities:
A group called Trip Tracker SPORTSMATE are currently looking for willing testers to join their new site and give them feedback on their system. You will need to have a GPS enabled device so that you can upload your .gpx, NMEA or Garmin Trainingcenter history files.
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence - Celebrate and make the most of milestones! Gavin Heaton is doing just that because of his 500th Technorati link. He's a Star that shines in the midst of the Milky Way. If you haven't visited his site, be sure to visit, wish him well and poke around to find amazing posts! And, if you give Gavin a link, you'll send him great link love!Naturalistic Intelligence What if someone took note that you really care about the natural world? To Bob Hruzek's surprise, people noticed his actions when he cleaned a camp trail of trash to enjoy the outdoors even more and model that for kids. Bob'd volunteered to be a counselor at a children's camp and at the end of his stint, one of the Camp Board members asked him to be the Camp Caretaker. Amazingly, as he reflected, Bob saw that he has smarts he had never really recognized in past. Note his thoughtful question:
Suppose you discovered, quite by accident, that you were really good at some… thing you’ve never done before. Suddenly, out of the blue, an opportunity to do it for real dropped out of the sky and landed right in your lap.Intrapersonal Intelligence It takes a strong person to admit weaknesses as Terry Starbucker and with fun to boot regarding SEO skills. He described these as "Screw Everything Openly." While many people jump to the forefront to tell you how great they are, Terry Starbucker's humility and fun sure go a long way. That's a sign of high intrapersonal intelligece.
What would you do?
Interpersonal Intelligence Steli tells folks in the blogosphere that he's grateful he has a blog. And he provides links to others who have helped him enjoy his blogging experience. Thanking folks publicly benefits all and really grows community. Thanks, Steli for modeling this!
Verbal-Linguistic Intelligence Do you have an easy way for non-English speakers to translate your text? Mike Sansone discusses some translation tools that provide visitors fast access to their own language. That's smart, Mike and I'm checking it out.
Musical Intelligence A jingle campaign? Evidently Pringles launched a contest for users to create a video of their jingle using musical smarts to take it to the top. Many talk about what makes a great brand... but, have you ever considered ways music might enhance yours? Cord Silverstein "would love your thoughts on what you like and what could be better" about Jingles for Pringles.
Hmmm...what tune comes to mind for your brand?
Try asking two-footed questions that tap intelligences you have never used for developing a project at work this week or even as you blog... Please come back and tell us about it...

Thanks for the link Robyn! I don't mind poking a little fun at myself if it can bring a smile to a reader's face (or an empathetic vibe). I All the best!
Terry, I just discovered your blog and it's a treasure. You share wisdom with wit and ease and I'll be stopping by to fill up my cup!
Thankx for mentioning me here Robyn! This are the moments when I am especially grateful to be a blogger - it´s great to know you! Steli
Thanks, Steli. I enjoy blogging as you do. And it's that great community of bloggers such as you that make it a pleasant experience.
What do you enjoy most, Steli?
Robyn,
Your posts are sooo fullll.
Perhaps you should call your site the heart-brain connection...so much crosses over into the arena of compassion as you acknowledge how people think, learn, speak, and mostly, what they desire in their life and work.
Thank you!
L
Lisa, you make a great point here about compassion and the brain. We build dendrite brain cells for areas of our concentration. Soon that moves over into the basil ganglia of the brain - the part which stores routines and schemas for what we learn and do. Humans make the choices and unfortunately some concentrate on self and therefore show very little compassion to others.
Yes, Lisa, I agree this post is chock fulllll... I push myself to focus through multiple intelligences because I learn from others' gifts and talents in more than a surface way. It's my way of giving back to the blogging community. :-)
Robyn, what an intriguing idea - "two-footed" questions. I'll have to consider that more as I ask questions of myself and others from now on. Thanks for the mention and the opportunity to grow!
Hi Bob, thanks. Two footed questions take you deeper, Bob. Try some of your own and see how they work for you! By the way, you never cease to interest me when I drop by your blog.
"By the way, you never cease to interest me when I drop by your blog."
Thanks, Robyn, although when a brain scientist says "I interest them"... should I be worried? :-D
Bob, your "aha" moment really intrigues me... You said, "Suppose you discovered, quite by accident, that you were really good at some… thing you’ve never done before."
"Aha" experiences are what so many hope for and what keeps researchers going so that it can happen more for more people! :-)
Once you recognized your strong desire to be a "caretaker" of this camp's natural environment, I'm sure you began to engage in more activities connected to that. You were actually building more dendrite brain cells in that area of your brain.
You'd be interested to know we are all born with the eight intelligences, and have a variation of strengths in these at birth. Good news is we can actually grow more dendrites in any intelligence by "doing" more activities in that area. For instance, part of the naturalistic intelligence includes collections, identification and nomenclature of species. I'm amazed at all the tress my husband can identify in the woods. The more you get into naturalistic intelligence with the interest you have, who knows where it will lead. Ever consider going back to school?
More to come, Bob, in my blog to explain more about multiple intelligences and how we can tap into them for our benefit.
Thanks for the great encouragement. :-D
Well..there are so many things I enjoy about blogging - but if I had to choose only one thing I would say: LEARNING! I learn so much as a blogger every day...& I love it :)
I'm with you on that, Steli. And, spoken as a true educator - one does not merely teach others but keeps learning more over a lifetime!
Hey, thanks for coming back. You really are cool!
Robyn,
Sometimes you make my head spin, but that is a good thing. Thanks for the call out.. I gotta tell you I have been disappointed with the lack of feedback I have gotten on the Pringles campaign. Eh, who knows...
Hello Robyn,
This is julianne,
the "Colorspeaker."
You left a comment on my painting "the arbitrator,"
and so i checked out your blog and am very intrigued. Would you mind if i put your blog on my blog-link list? You are more than welcome to use mine on yours...Thanks again for the comment. Keep pushing the envelope on the subject of the brain and thought-the world needs it! julianne-the colorspeaker
Cord, you reminded me that I have yet to comment on the Pringles! Oops...And, Cord I love your site because you're so full of surprises like the Pringles post. You are a person who engages many intelligences! The call-out is deserved.
Julienne, I'm honored to have an artist visit my site. If you do not mind, I would like to interview you and highlight your art.
Robyn
Robyn, I love this post! I found it through the Good blogs and am planning on adding it to del.ico.us (or how ever you spell that thing.) Sadly, I'm away from my machine and you don't have an easy button for me to click at the bottom of your post. Consider this a request from a new reader to add them.
I'm fascinated by intellegences and I'm eager to start using your suggestions to reframe some posts I have queued up.
thanks
Lex, thanks for sharing that my blog has inspired you to try something new. You have also inspired me to grow more of my logical mathematical intelligence to include the buttons you mention. Lex, I appreciate your great suggestion. :-)
Great Post, Robyn. You are getting some amazing results and comments. Way to go!
best~ gl
